TAKENO SHO-O
武野紹鴎
Takeno Sho-o's real name was Nakamura Shingoro , and he was a descendant of Takeda Izumo-no-Kami Nobumitsu .
武野紹鴎は幼名を仲村新五郎と言い、武田出雲守信光の末裔になります。
His father Nobuhisa lost his father Nakakiyo and also his fortune in the war of Onin , and left without any patron, and so, after wandering about for some time eventually found his way to Sakai in the province of Izumi and became a tradesman.
彼の父信久は、その父仲清を応仁の乱で亡くし、流浪の身となってしまいます。その後、彼ら家族は泉州堺へたどり着き商人となります。
Sho -o went to Kyoto when he was a boy and was a retainer of the Udaijin Kimiyori for fourteen years, when he was presented at Court and given the lower grad of the Lower Fifth Rank and the title of Inaba-no-Kami .
紹鴎は子供の時に京都へやられ、右大臣 Kimiyori の家来として出仕、14歳でした。その後、朝廷より従五位下因幡守を叙任されます。
He studied Japanese verse under Nishi- Sanjo Shoyuin Sanetake , and since he lived next door to the Ebisudo in Shijo street he took the pen-name of Daikoku -an.
彼は歌道を西三条実隆に学びます。その後、四条にある恵比寿堂の隣に住んで「大黒庵」と称しました。
Ebisu and Daikoku , the two Gods of Lock, are always associated. They sit together in the Japanese kitchen as tutelary deities.
恵比寿様と大黒様は二人の神様で対になっています。日本の台所の守護神として一緒に祀られていています。
He also studied the Zen philosophy under Futsu Kokushi and in this connection took the title of Ikkan Koji.
彼は又、禅も Fustu K okushi から学びその関係で一閑居士の号を授けられます。
Since Tea was very much the fashion at the time he took lesson in it from Sogo and Sochin and became such a master that he was considered the greatest adept since Shuko .
時節がら、もちろん、茶道においても宗悟、宗陳より習います。そして、珠光以来の茶の湯名人となります。
The name Takeno was taken by him in reference to the family of Takeda of Kai, so renowned in war, from which he borrowed the first syllable.
武野と言う苗字は、彼の先祖である甲斐の武田家より出典をしています。前の武を貰い。
“When the seed was sown
We may call it Takeda
From that race I sprang.
But that field is now laid waste
So I style it Takeno,”
is the verse he made to explain this change.
「武田と言う種はまかれ、そこから私が芽を出した。が、今その田は荒野と化した、よって、私は武野と名乗ることにしよう。」改名した訳が詩として残っています。
Ta(modified to “ da ”=Cultivated rice fields. No= Moorlamd .
“ 田 ” を ” 野 ” に変える、田は田んぼで、野は荒野を意味する。
In due time he gave up his appointment and went to a place called Henomatsu in Sakai, where he lived in retirement, diverting himself with esthetic pleasures far from the turmoil of ordinary life.
やがて、彼は官位を返上して堺の Henomatsu へ移りました。巷の喧騒から離れ、優雅へと転向していったのです。
The sights and sounds of nature were all he needed.
自然の景色と音を彼は必要としました。
The long flight of the wild geese in the autumn sky, and the spring flowers when the winter was done.
雁の群れが飛ぶ秋の空、春の花々、冬の風景。
The voice of the stag calling to his mate mingling with the quiet pine-rhythm murmur of the water in his kettle filled his heart with serene content.
仲間を呼ぶ牡鹿の鳴き声や釜の中で水が沸く松風の旋律、彼の心はゆったりした充足感で満たされます。
North of Henomatsu lived Araki Dochin , and on day, when he was sitting beside Sho-o's hearth and the pair of them were discussing the beautiful, he quoted the line of Kyogoku Komon Teika :
“When the landscape lies
Without any flower of spring
Any autumn tint
On the shore a straw-thatched hut
Limned against the sunset gold.”
Henomaysu の北に荒木道陳という人物がいて紹鴎と親交がありました。ある日の出来事、二人で炉をかこんで会話を楽しんでいると、道陳が 京極中納言定家 の歌を口ずさみました。
「見渡せば 花も紅葉も無かりけり 浦の苔屋の 秋の夕暮れ」
Sho -o clapped his hands. “That's just it,” he exclaimed, “the secret of Teaism lies only in realizing the calm serenity of such a scene.”
紹鴎は手をたたきながら「まさにそうだ!」っと叫びました。「茶の湯の奥義とはまさにこの静寂の中にこそある!。」
And he took up his brush and wrote the lines down and stuck them upon the wall of the Tea-room as the best expression of the pith of Teaism .
そしてすぐその歌を筆で書きとめ、茶の湯の根本として、茶室の壁に掛けたのでした。
Kyogoku Komon Teika or Fujiwara Sadaie (1162-1241), was the son of the famous Fujiwara Shunzei or Toshinari. He held the court offices of Sangi, Jubu Kyo and Gon-Chunagon. Like his father, he was as eminent poet and was appointed by the Emperor Go-Toba to collaborate in the compilation of the Anthology called Shin-Kokon-Waka-shu. He was also the compiler of the Hyakunin Isshu or Hundred Poems. At the end of his life he retired to a little cottage on Ogura-yama near Saga, west of Kyoto, when he was known as Kyogoku.
京極中納言定家、藤原定家は藤原俊成の子、左権中納言まで出世。父同様に歌人として有名な人で後鳥羽天皇と一緒に「新古今和歌集」を編纂したりしました。そしてまた「百人一集」を選、引退後は京都西嵯峨野の小倉山に庵を建てて住みました。
