II NAOMASA AND HIDEYOSHI
井伊直政と秀吉
There is a story of this Naozumi's grandfather, Ｉ i Hyobu-taiyu-Naomasa, that shows the same quick resource.
この話は井伊直澄が祖父である井伊修理太夫直政の鋭い機転を受け継いだ事を指し示しています。
Naomasa had been invited Cha-no-yu by Hideyoshi, who also invited Ishikawa Hoki-no-kami Kazumasa who was an old friend of Naomasa's, at the same time.
直政が秀吉に茶の湯に招かれました時の事で、かつての旧知仲間である石川数正も同席していました。
But Naomasa turned his back on him and did not say a word, and when they went into the Tea-room and Hideyoshi made tea and offered it to Naomasa, he broke out with: “This fellow Kazumasa is a disloyal coward who has left his former lord and gone over to your side.
直正は背後の彼にあえて無視をし茶室に入りました。秀吉が茶を点ててそれを直正に差し出した時に、「ここに居る秀吉殿ご家来である数正は我殿の元を逐電した不忠の腰抜けでござる。」
Pray excuse me from having to sit in the same room with such a man.”
「私はそのような男とは同席はごめんこうむりたくお願い申し上げます。」と言いました。
And he got up and went out, leaving everyone dumb with astonishment.
彼はそう言うと退席し、皆びっくりしてひきとめる者もいません。
But the real reason was that Naomasa saw that Hideyoshi meant to let him under an obligation to himself, and took this way of getting out of it.
直正は秀吉の思惑を見抜き懐柔拒否の行動を起こしたのです。
